Even Taylor Swift understands the importance of a classic red lipstick, and nobody rocks a flawless red lip with as much power as Peggy in Marvel’s Agent Carter. Vintage lipstick has long since retired, but Bésame Cosmetics has developed a formula that both matches the colors and quality of make-up from the mid-20th century. Each of their shades is modeled after a yearly trending color from 1920-1969 (plus, they even come in metal tubes and are shaped with two flat sides for the perfect reproduction). Bésame gives Agent Carter her stunning red-lipped look, and now we’re here to show you how we like to wear it!
- Prepare your lips by exfoliating with a sugar scrub (we prefer homemade), and patting dry throughly with a soft towel.
- Use a corner point of a Bésame lipstick as your lip liner. Start at the corners of your lip, and drag towards the center. Make a small X at your cupid’s bow. Smiling or opening your mouth a little can help you achieve a more smooth surface.
- Use the flat side of the Bésame lipstick to apply the lipstick coming up or down from the lines.
We put Bésame lipstick to the test at the day job, and by night, we didn’t even need to reapply! The thick and creamy formula stayed on for hours and hours. Even with just a bold, red lip people were complimenting like crazy. Each lipstick costs $22, but is a worthwhile investment. Not having to constantly reapply means that not only will your lips stay red all day, but you’ll use less of the lipstick at a time. While the most classic is the self-titled Bésame Red, our second favorite is 1946-inspired Red Velvet for a deeper red that’s not too vampy for everyday use. Red Velvet takes Agent Carter from day to night and will transform your look from candy shop to cocktail hour.
To finish up your SSR-worthy look, Bésame also makes a 3-in-1 cake mascara that can be used as eyeliner and eyebrow pencil, too. Plus, our friend and pin-up model Cherry Dollface can show you how to style your hair similar to Peggy’s popular 1940s curls using a flat iron. All you need is a fitted skirt-suit and you’re ready to save Howard Stark.
Thank you Bésame Cosmetics for providing lipstick for us to review.
